In this show, Lorraine de Sagazan uses theatre as a counter-space to question the workings of the justice system, its gaps and its alternatives. The Leviathan, an ambivalent biblical figure with an immense philosophical and literary heritage, asks the question: who is the monster?

Confronting the instituted construction of law, its organisation, the possession of authority and so-called legitimate violence, the show attempts, using a variety of registers, to overturn certain obvious facts and operate tipping points beyond good and evil.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Director Lorraine de Sagazan trained as an actress and studied philosophy. In 2015, she founded her company “La Brèche”, which performs throughout France and abroad. She was a resident at “Villa Medici” in 2022–2023, where she conducted research and held meetings for the writing of “Leviathan”. Her multifaceted projects, at the crossroads of performance, the performing arts and the visual arts, question the way in which fiction can respond to reality. In January 2024, she created “Le Silence” based on the work of Antonioni at the “Comédie-Française, Vieux-Colombier”.
