The prestigious Lithuanian director Oskaras Koršunovas directs a new version of “Uncle Vania”, a key text by Anton Chekhov, and does so with a Catalan star cast. This “Uncle Vania” uses Temporada Alta festival formula of bringing together the talents of an international director and local cast. Koršunovas’ dramatic commitment will be, as always in his theatre, radically free.
“Uncle Vania”, which premiered in 1899 at the Moscow Art Theatre, is one of the most important plays in nineteenth-century dramatic literature. Chekhov reflects the inner apocalypse of a handful of human destinies: boredom, wasted life, unrequited love or endless work mark the existence of the characters in one of the author’s most bleak and representative works.
