“Ode to Light” is a synthesis of sacred music, dance and visual arts, combining the dynamics of dance, the theme of an inner journey, and the symbolic motif of lighthouses. For this performance, artistic forces are united by the “Golden Stage Cross” laureate Agnija Šeiko Dance Company and the Klaipėda Concert Hall’s artistic collectives: the chamber orchestra under the direction of Mindaugas Bačkus and the “Aukuras” Choir under the direction of Tomas Ambrozaitis.
The dancers, according to choreographer Agnija Šeiko, embody “inner ships”, while the character of the Ferryman leads through the metaphorical “sea of inner death”. It is a journey in which the light of the lighthouse becomes hope, and dance becomes a tool for personal transformation. During the performance, the dancers’ costumes, reminiscent of the sails of a sailing ship, transform to symbolise liberation and the discovery of light.
The musical programme includes world-renowned works such as Philip Glass’s Quartet No. 3 “Mishima”, excerpts from Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass”, Max Richter’s “November” and the Lithuanian folk song “Leliumoj, oi kas vaikščiojo”. The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and the “Aukuras” Choir create a unique sound space, and each performance is filled with inspiration and professionalism. This interdisciplinary project combines history, art and spirituality.
