CREATIVE WORKSHOP Dance. from scratch.

We invite professional actors and dancers, as well as students studying dance or acting, to participate in the “Dance. from scratch” creative workshop. The workshop will be led on June 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. by Patricia Apergi, artistic director and choreographer of the dance company “Aerites”, one of the most prominent artists in the contemporary dance scene in Greece, and dancer Eleanna Zoi, a member of the “Aerites” company. The location of the workshop will be specified.

The workshop is addressed to artists/dance students who are interested in the company’s working methods and want to deepen their understanding on how we can discover genuine movement and also, how this personal kinetic material, can be used later in a compositional procedure.

In the first part of the workshop, we will focus on the movement vocabulary by learning some routines from the company’s repertory (from our latest work “HYSTORY”) and we will focus on the ways in which movement is generated, developed and transformed, in order to create our kinetic language.

In the second part of the workshop, the participants are going to deepen their knowledge on how we can discover genuine movement and personal dance material. Through improvisation and creative tasks we will explore a more individual style of movement, while also investigating the type of dramaturgy that is emerges whenever the body is allowed to ‘speak’ for itself. We will focus on the relationship between text, language and body, through techniques and exercises triggering automatic physical movements and spontaneous reactions, inspired by the topics of Hystory.

In the final part of the workshop, we will focus on the compositional process, bringing together the movement material, images, ideas and dramaturgical elements that have emerged throughout the workshop. Through collective choreographic practices, participants will be invited to contribute creatively to the development of a shared narrative landscape, exploring how individual voices can merge into a coherent yet multifaceted composition. The aim is to experience choreography as a collaborative act of meaning-making, where personal discoveries become part of a collective artistic statement.

**Shoes are required for this workshop; notebooks are also required to bring to the workshop. Please wear shoes with non-marking soles.
